CPR FAQs

Q. How long can someone be in cardiac arrest before permanent damage occurs?

A. While the time is different for everyone based on their general health and body temperature, however, 6 minutes is generally accepted as the time when irreversible brain damage begins occurring. This is why CPR must begin immediately after cardiac arrest.

Q. Can you get sued for doing CPR?

A. No successful lawsuit has ever been brought against someone for doing CPR.
You are protected by Good Samaritan Laws in all 50 states.

Q. Will CPR cause a person to regain a pulse?

A. No. In a vast majority of cases a person will not regain a pulse from CPR alone, however, you are saving that person's brain and vital organs until an AED arrives.
In pediatric CPR there is a greater chance of return to spontaneous circulation (ROSC) with CPR alone than in adults.

Q. Is CPR training tough or expensive?

A. No. Anyone in moderately good physical shape can easily complete the training and if you view our rates you will see we are the lowest in town.

Q. Can I take a CPR class online?

A. Yes, however, no reputable company can claim to provide effective training online. There is no way to provide proper training without a CPR manikin and feedback about technique from a certified trainer. Claiming other wise is irresponsible and none of the nationally recognized CPR certifying agencies offer online courses.

Q. Do I have to do the breaths?

A. There has been a strong push in recent years to eliminate the rescue breaths from CPR. While I feel the breaths are important as they provide fresh oxygen into the body, if you feel uncomfortable giving the breaths compression only CPR will still circulate oxygenated blood through the body. Check out the recent article I published on Hands Only CPR in the news section.

Q. AHA or ASHI

A. This is a personal preference, or it may be dictated by your employer. Public institutions have to accept ASHI, however, private entities may require AHA only. They are equivalent in course content in every way. The advantage with ASHI is the reduced price and the availability of cards at the conclusion of class.

Q. How long should a CPR class take?

A. A CPR class for someone that has never taken the course before should last between 2-3 hours. First Aid or Healthcare Provider certifications will add additional time to the class. Recertifications can be done much faster.

Q. What areas does your company service?

A. We focus on the Greater Cincinnati area including: Northern Kentucky and Eastern Indiana. However, we will travel for larger classes.

Q. What are the new steps of CPR

A.
